NOVEMBER

October passed in the blink of an eye. I fear I barely had time to enjoy it.

It's unfathomable how we could be nearing closer and closer towards the end of 2013.

My showing season is pretty much finished. I have one more show in December, which I will announce shortly, but other than that, I am just enjoying my time to breathe and focus on creating instead of deadlines and dates.

This season my interest has been in Georgia O'Keeffe and the southwest. I have been so drawn and so inspired by New Mexico. I just want to go back. Those who have not been out there will probably not understand, but never have I been to a place of such native culture and natural beauty. I hope I am able to make a trip out in a year or two.

There's just something about O'Keeffe's sense of adventure. It riles up something within to make you want to strap on a travel easel and head out to no man's land to find greatness and hidden treasures. I read where O'Keeffe spent hours and hours of her time outdoors in the baking summer New Mexico heat. I believe she remarked about when the sun would be at it's peak and it would be so scorching hot that she would have to lay under her parked car in order to escape the sun, because there was nowhere else to go.

Many years ago the Columbus Museum of Art had a Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit that my parents took me to for extra credit for an art class. The exhibit focused primarily on her southwestern paintings completed at her Ghost Ranch studio. The exhibit did not have any of her flowers, but I wasn't disappointed... In fact, I enjoyed her southwestern pictures. She has such an interesting point of view and plays with the perspective and shapes of her horse skulls. Her landscapes dazzled and still managed to capture the rainbow-esque beauty of the south west that a lot of people fail to see.

Georgia O'Keeffe's 126th birthday would have been last week. This post is dedicated to her.

"To create one's world in any of the arts takes courage." -Georgia O'keefe

September Skies!

September is bringing a lot of excitement around these parts!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of being a vendor at the Clintonville Arts and Music Festival! It was a really nice time and they had a lot of great vendors set up whom I had seen before locally out and about in the community. You just felt a really nice neighborly vibe in the Clintonville area. You just don't really see communities like that one anymore.

The arts and music festival brought a lot of success. I sold a few paintings and A LOT of pendants! I also got some great feedback from customers and with consensus known... I will be creating a lot of really cool pieces soon, so keep checking back on here and ALSO over on my Facebook page!

My next venture will be my Artist Reception out at Flutterby Ceramics on September 20th, which is a Friday Evening, so it would be PERFECT for a date night. *wink wink* Flutterby has so graciously set up a wonderful event for me including music, drinks and food, but the best part is that it is FREE to the public!!

There's already some buzz about my show online, so I hope anyone reading this blog will make it out! I'd really love to meet you and introduce you to my portraits!

This weekend I will be headed over to Elizabeth's Records off of Indianola to paint a mural in their back room they recently renovated and opened up for more records! It's going to be GREAT! I can't wait to show you the finished product.

I have a few apps out for holiday shows, so we will see where that takes me!

Keep an eye out on my Etsy store. I will have some more pieces making their way in, but for NOW it's BACK to the grind and time to replenish stock!

Thanks for all the wonderful support, feedback and comments!

Creatively yours,
MEMOIRE

CLINTONVILLE ARTS AND MUSIC FEST

Note to self: I need a planner. You know, one of those little note book calendar thingies where you write down important dates and events and somehow you still manage to forget until the day of.

People just tell me to use my phone's planner, but the old, cranky, lady stuck inside this 25 year old's body does not want to compute that and set alarms and what not, and end up being awoken at 6am for a reminder instead of 6pm.

Anyways, I wanted to send a quick note to let you know that the CLINTONVILLE ARTS AND MUSIC FEST will soon be upon us.

It has been scheduled for SEPTEMBER 7th and is an ALL day event supporting the arts, local businesses and EVEN BETTER local music.

I will be set up outdoors for this event! So, swing on by and check out some fun new pieces that will be making their debut!

Check out http://experienceclintonville.com/  for more information!

Welcome, August!

WE are in August, right? The temperatures are very mild in these parts.

I hope that doesn't mean blizzards in October, but I really can't complain. It's refreshing to step outside and not feel like you're in the middle of a jungle rain forest.

Speaking of lovely weather... The weather is going to be GORGEOUS this weekend and just in time, too!

I will be one of the Columbus Summer Flea vendors!!
I know. I am super excited. I am also excited to be surrounded with other friendly vendors and familiar faces!

I hope you will drop by! Maybe you will find something from other vendors or myself that you MUST have. So you can make YOUR  day as well as OURS!

I am still set up at FLUTTERBY CERAMICS in Baltimore, and will be announcing some exciting news from them VERY SOON!

SEPTEMBER is FULL of updates, but that is for another time and another blog post!

July 2013 UPDATES

It's official... the summer of 2013 is here!

It brings forth exciting news and changes.

Today I will be headed out to Beautiful Baltimore, OHIO to set up at FLUTTERBY CERAMICS. My walls at home this morning are starting to looks bare as I ship my portraits out that way for their store's grand opening. A lot of other talented people will be showing their art as well. It's an exciting time and I wish their store the best. Baltimore could used something exciting like this to help spur some interest into their little city.

"You must plan to be spontaneous."
David Hockney

Well, I did hear some unfortunate news, but it still ended up being worth while. The place I was planning on having a month long show informed me this weekend that they planned on closing up shop, because of lack of interest in their area.  However, they have been courteous enough to still offer my pieces for sale during their gallery hop for the area, so it kind of works itself out in the end... in a non official way.

Doris Day singing "Que Sera Sera" taught me a valuable lesson in life and I find myself to be a much happier person by not being affected by every tiny aspect of my life that may go wrong.

I have a feeling some more exciting news may be headed my way, but the jury (in some cases literally) is still out.

"A work of art is the unique result of a unique temperament."
Oscar Wilde

The Gallery 83 showing will be coming to a close this upcoming weekend, but it brought forth a lot of excitement generated by my pieces. I sold a couple of pieces, then sold some more, which always makes me happy and I am sure the gallery owners as well.

Well, onward and upward towards the stars.

June 2013 UPDATES

For the first time in a very long time.. We have had a "Spring"... meaning we have had a couple months now of wonderful weather. Another wonderful thing about the spring is the fragrance.I can't remember a Spring that smelled sweeter than this years. Mostly in part, because the weather has given the plants an extended pollination period. The bees are finally buzzing, the birds sing, the grass grows, and frogs serenade the evenings with the same familiar tune.

Although this Spring has been a calm and refreshing one.. It has also been a busy one.

In February of this year I set out on a journey I had long dreamt about, but never pursued despite compliment after compliment and much enthusiasm from friends and family. I set out to clear my walls of the tired paintings I saw day in and day out.

The Spring has refreshed my senses, while the empty walls littered with remaining nails refreshes my soul and creativity.

NOW, on to the fun stuff.

I had a very successful show this past weekend with 83 Gallery! I sold some pieces, which I hope are going to a good home. Paintings.... they're just like pets, you know?

This weekend I will be meeting with the lovely owner of Flutterby Ceramics who has so graciously opened her store to local artists to add some life to her walls. She has spent many months renovating the old storefront and I wish her the greatest of luck in this endeavor. Now, I have to decide which pieces are making their way out to her.

OTHER BIG NEWS:

I have been confirmed for a show at VINYL FRONTIER in Columbus for mid July-Aug! I will have more details soon!

Hasta luego, Amigos!
